How to bring back former members?
I can think of two guys who were posting a year ago, John Caton and someone with a handle along the lines of music lawyer. Both smart and solid.
Anyone know how? Can we just look up a member by name in that old forum?

I search a lot, but by topic, not by author. May have seen his posts and not registered the name.

Re: How to bring back former members?
You can go to the MDA forum and send private messages to John Caton and others you want to come here. Some may get notified when they get a PM or even receive the PM by email.

I'm ignorant. I don't know how to search for members.

Yes, we need to invite them. Does someone know how to do that who would volunteer to do so?
My PM system over at MDA is non-existent so I have to do a PITA work around to send PMs. I did a few yesterday and it was a painful experience.
Anyone?

Re: How to bring back former members?
I PMed 10 people who posted on MDA more or less recently:
There are several others who post almost exclusively on the Journals forum. I don't know how interested they would be in moving, given their investment.

Welcome! Spread the word to others still over there at MDA who were regular posters. I know most of us want a vibrant, advice-laden forum again! I know I personally miss learning from all the questions asked and answered.

Re: How to bring back former members?
Sending PM's on MDA Forum:
Get logged in, then visit this page:
forum.marksdailyapple.com/privatemessage/index
Once there, click the "compose new" button
Enter the the user name(s) you want to send to immediately below the bolded "New Message". The rest is straightforward, but I always have a double take on where the addressee's handles go.
If the people you send to haven't dinged around with how their PM's work, they will get an email notification to their "home" email account that they have a PM, and will give them the context of the message. They should not need to visit MDA to know what it says.
FWIW, I PM'd John Caton some time back and he never acknowledged.
For someone like Music Attorney if you aren't sure of their handle, you can find 'em, but it is quite tedious:
Get to the MemberList Page at forum.marksdailyapple.com/memberlist
I don't think there is a direct way to enter a name and go directly to a page, so it is a PITA: Click the letter of the alphabet you want to look for, in this case "M" There are 1420 M pages. You can enter a page number at the top, where it shows "page 1 of 1420" or you can use your good guessing and the bottom of the page page numbers to narrow down your search. So on the bottom, pick page 1001. Keep on repeating this process and narrow down the page number your person will be on. Voila, he's on page 1344, MusicAttorney! Really sucks as a process, but if you are dedicated it'll work. If you remember some thread they've posted on, that's much easier to find 'em to ensure you get the name right.

In the PM recipient field, you can start typing a username. A dropdown list of possibilities will show up and will dwindle as you type more letters.

Aw shucks. How can I not join when OTB says something that nice about me?
Any chance there will be a Primal Research or similar forum?
Thanks for the note Sharperhawk. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the message, here I am.
I retreated to the journals forum when the others became too unfriendly for me. I am glad to be here.

Good point Sharperhawk, on the addressee lookup thing. I didn't remember it doing that list of suggested members.
Welcome to the "new" folks coming over. Glad you all are giving it a shot.

I'm one of those mostly journal people too. Basically for the same reason as Annie. Made it here today

Narrowminded PMd me but I had already seen the entry from Ontario and I tried it. Thanks to both.

Re: How to bring back former members?
FWIW I send an e-mail to John Caton to invite him. If that doesn't work perhaps OTB/RigD can give him a call... I've got the number (provided he hasn't changed it since).

Didn't mean to imply we're buddies... anyone could have found this info.
I wish other people I/we have interacted with at MDA could be contacted. I've shared the link, that's all we can do really...

I know. Several were sent over time. Knowing MDA his PM box could be overflowing with messages... without any warning at all. I was referring to a phone call... but let's wait and see if he responds to the e-mail first.

It worked. He said he'd be over to check things out.
Wish all former active members of MDA were that easy to locate and contact...
Hope they'll find this place on their own. Miss them.
