Is there a way to turn off ads?
Recently ads have started appearing at the top of my screen.
"Everybody's Watching Me!" -- wasn't there a song to the effect?
Is there a way to avoid that?
If it helps support the webpage I can deal.
Thanks.

I've installed uBlock Origin to block ads. It's free and available for all browsers AFAIK and you can decide for every site whether to turn it on or off.

This is a free forum. And, well, as they say, "Nothing in life is really free". So, the cost of our "free" forum is that unless, as Lovebird pointed out, you install a third party ad blocker then, yes, you are going to see ads.

And that is exactly why I turn it off on occasion... yes, I'm weird that way, but I'm grateful for the platform they've given us and installed the adblocker for a different reason than this place.

The only ad I see is for Topic'it, which is the app promoted by Forumotion for mobile access.
As long as there are no pop-ups, autoplaying videos, or huge amounts of screen space used, I'm fine with ads.

Thank you all for the info.
I did not want to ask because the forum is free but they just now started showing up and I did not understand why.

Don't feel bad asking! Asking questions is how we learn! Besides, I also learn a lot when members ask or suggest things.

Re: Is there a way to turn off ads?
Well, I have to change my response. Today, for the first time, banner add for video games across the top of the first section. It does cover content here. I would not be bothered if it was above the content area. Not sure if a larger top margin, if even possible would help or not. For me it would need to be about 1/2 more space.
I will see if it continues. I’m also curious as why it just started, when others have had it before and some haven’t.

Re: Is there a way to turn off ads?
I am not seeing this. Unfortunately, we can't control the presence of ads unless we want to pay forum fees. How are you viewing the forum? I know that there are many options now days with regard to how people view forums so perhaps a discussion on who is using what and what ads they are/are not seeing might be helpful.
When I view the forum I always do so via the website. Even when I use my tablet I load the forum in Chrome.

I know you don´t have control Ontario, just wanted to note it Incase others have issues going forward.
I am using the website via Safari on my iPad. Other than maybe the first week the forum was up, this is how I access and it´s always been through Safari.
I may give chrome a try and see what happens.

Re: Is there a way to turn off ads?
I can see the banner, but it's not blocking any text on my laptop.
NM, can't you simply use an adblocker on your iPad? AFAIK Ublock Origin works on Safari too.

Re: Is there a way to turn off ads?
Update. I’m wondering if the latest iOS update removed some sort of filter. No matter I downloaded Ad Guard and it seems to have done the trick.
