VH, if you continue with added seaweed/iodine intake, I suggest making sure you are getting adequate amounts (200-400 mcg) of selenium. As to auto-immmune thyroid disease, it can only really be determined by biospy. A negative blood test does not definitively rule it out.

Case in point-- my sister had negative blood tests. When her nodules started to impact her swallowing she had 1/2 of her thyroid removed. A biospy showed Hashimotos.

Oh my. Scary that it echoed the clot experience, but, sounds like this condition carries less risk? But, any issues are going to be draining. I hope this resolves itself with minimal meds and symptoms.

Marcadav good catch on the need for selenium. When I started transitioning to getting more iodine from seaweed, I looked at how my selenium intake but only figured I would eat no more than a serving of seaweed each day or two. Last week, for a variety of reasons, it was much higher. I picked up some Brazil nuts for the days I eat more than I had planned.

Things seem to be calming down but I may need to follow up with my ent sooner than May for my annual ultrasound and blood work. My primary, who is an endocrinologist, said my ent is THE thyroid specialist in the area, so he would work with him on my issues. I have been too lazy to pull out the copies of my last fn biopsies and tests results, but we may need to do more testing. I am just glad I am feeling better. Now if I could just get this congestion to finally clear up! Everyday it is a little better but I am not patient!

I got our den cleaned up and cleared out and we have been enjoying our morning tea/coffee in there this weekend. It is cozier in here than the living room.

Still waiting for the remaining electrical work to be finished along with punchlist items. They were waiting for some items on back order for the punchlist. Really hoping for this week!

Today will be a quiet day at home since we got everything else done in anticipation of the storm.

Feeling pretty much back to normal but still tired. Congestion is much better.

Cold here but tomorrow back to the 40s f. Daisy gets too stiff in this super cold weather so no walk for her today. I need to get on the elliptical and walk. I've told myself I only need to do a mile, winch should be fairly easy.

Since following Wahls protocol, my belly has been much better. My sister and I have some of the same problems but what works for her does don't work for me and what works for me, makes her worse. It is very interesting how that happens. The more I learn, the more I real how little we know about gut issues. I do think she would do better without wheat but it is up to her to decide.

We get our sausage from a small shop near where I used to live. It has been around since 1955 and is now run by the son. We found out last weekend that they will make a custom batch of sausage for us. It just has to be a minimum of 5-7 pounds. They make a breakfast sausage with potato, bacon and sharp cheddar that E says is really good. I want some with potato and bacon. I tried their bacon only sausage and it was super tasty. We had a Marsala wine, mushroom and scallion sausage last week that was perfect on a bed of mixed sautéed mushrooms and roasted cauliflower.

Other than that, we are freezer shopping for meat the next week or two. We have three freezers with a wide assortment of meats that we need to eat. I started two trays of micro greens this week. Hopefully I can get a mix of greens growing to augment our veggie needs this winter.

I'm glad you're feeling better. Smile

The gut troubles - and the what works for doesn't work for you stuff - is why I decided to fork out the money for the Viome test. I've tried every protocol out there and nothing seems to fit the bill and fix my issues. I'm still waiting on the results though Sad

Post by Vh67 on Sat Feb 02, 2019 2:18 pm

It has been a slightly frustrating week. I had a set back with my thyroid inflammation. I saw the ENT since swallowing was a little painful. They scoped my throat to make sure the lymphatic tissue was not swollen and asymmetrical again. Everything was non-remarkable there but my thyroid was swollen. I am on a course of prednisone and there has been significant improvement after just one full day. He thinks it is likely related to my cold but if it continues to be a problem, we will do more testing. Otherwise I will wait until my annual round of testing in May. Blood work now might not be accurate because of the swelling.

I have appointments with my GI doctor and quarterly labs this week and next week I see my oncologist. I will be all doctored out after that.

On a happier note, it is a little warmer today and by Tuesday it should be in the 40-50s. We went for a walk this morning and it was 18f, which was significantly warmer than it had been. It was pleasant walk, except for Daisy's encounter with an area of heavy road salt on the bridge across the creek. We will be avoiding any and all salt in the future. We are going back out tomorrow to different park we discovered not too far from us. It will be more of a hike than a walk but the views of the Delaware river should be spectacular!

Food has been good, maybe too much of a good thing. I stopped weighing myself and am just eating according to plan. I am still trying to find that balance of starchy foods that make my belly happy and lower carb that makes my PCOS happy. My starches are pretty limited, just white rice, peeled potatoes and sweet potatoes. And sour dough bread made with white rice, potato starch and tapioca flour mix along with my homemade sourdough starter. It is really delicious but I limit it to once a week because there really is not a lot of nutritional value to it and I could eat it all day long! And it takes time to ferment it.

This week the exercise plan is neighborhood walks with Daisy each day and some sort of weight training each day, even if it just body weight. I may add time on the elliptical but we will see how I feel. And hikes both weekend mornings.

So sorry for the relapse with the thyroid. Praying the prednisone does the trick and May’s blood work/test come back clean.

Sounds like you are doing well with your eating from healthy stand point.

Those walks sound awesome.

Difficult to hear your news about your thyroid. I am hoping the prednisone works for you. I am sure this is a huge stress for you and I am sorry you have to go through this process.

I am glad you are keeping on top of the issue and are working with your drs and will see others during the next few weeks.

Hang tough missy....as you do so well.

Hike this morning was awesome!  We will be going back to this park. Thank you guys!  I am hoping this course of prednisone works.  And I am thinking happy, positive thoughts!

It has lots of trails and is only about 5 miles from us.  My two Cuties! My renewal... - Page 16 Img_0413

Quiet day planned.  We did some cleaning/furniture moving in the den.  It is really becoming my favorite room, especially on cold days.  Next is ordering curtain and a new rod and getting rid of the old blinds.

Later we will go pick up sushi and watch the Super Bowl.  A local place has a special on sushi platters and they have really good quality fish, so we are being lazy.  I also made ranch dip with fresh herbs and Coyo coconut yogurt, which we will have veggies with.  I never thought, as a 49er fan, that I would say this but GO Rams!

Pam, I love places like this too! We are very lucky to have so many great trails near us and I am glad we found this new one!

Feeling very happy today. I am trying to focus on the positive because it is easy to go down the rabbit hole of self-pity. Looking back to this time last year and I was taking my belly meds three or four times a day. Now I am taking it once a day or not at all if I don't have pain. There have been significant improvements in some areas and I need to remember that.

Daisy and I did a walk around the neighborhood and enjoyed the sunshine. It is beautiful today. And warm!

I have been getting 9 cups of veggies in most days. It normally takes effort and planning but today I am going to exceed it. I found my favorite stripped eggplant and the market had really nice mushrooms. I got about 5 lbs of the eggplant and about the same of a mix of mushrooms. I peeled, sliced and roasted three of the eggplants with the plan of eating part of them for lunch and saving the rest for dinner. I also cut up some bacon, browned it, added the five lbs of mushrooms I chopped up and cooked them down. I ate all of the eggplant, with some mushrooms! They are so creamy inside when roasted. I will need to roast more for dinner. We are having a Marsala mushroom pork sausage with the mushroom mix served over the eggplant.

Tomorrow they are finishing the electrical work so I will not have power most of the day. I am getting laundry done today and have charged my ebook. We will hang out in the den and read tomorrow. I can use the cooktop, so I will have hot food. I am glad this is finally being done!

Great job getting in those veg. I always found my morning hash (which I haven’t had lately) really helps with the veg load.

Happy to hear you are feeling happy and keeping your head up.

Love the place you can hike. So pretty.

Yeah for finally getting the electrical done.

My renewal... - Page 16 Empty Re: My renewal...

Electrical is done! It happened yesterday instead of Tuesday because of the power company. There was some frustration on the part of our contractor but it done! Tomorrow they install the facuet that was on back order and final inspections are scheduled for next week. Next week the bar cabinet will be delivered. Almost done!

I apparently cannot handle large amounts of raw veggies and am back to cooked ones after another flare. Had a pretty long discussion with the GI doc about my pain. She thinks I have multiple things going on, diverticulosis all along the entire large intestine, adhesions/scar tissue in my abdomin and intestinal spasms. The normal intestinal movement can cause the pain from the adhesion, and the spasms more so. Surgery is not really a fix because that can just cause more scar tissue/adhesions. That explains the pain I feel moving certain ways.

We also went over the MRI. M2m talked about how testing just leads to other testing and that is true here. They found multiple tiny cysts on my pancreas at both MRIs, with no change but the report did not outline how may or measurements of them so she is sending me for an endoscopic ultrasound to check them out. It actually sounds kind of cool and fortunately there is a doctor that does them near us so I don't have to go to Philly for it. They will go down into my stomach with a scope that has ultrasound tip and check out the cysts. He can even do biopsies if necessary. It under sedation so I won't remember any of it. She did not think it was something to worry too much about but said we need actual data to know how to best monitor them. It is scheduled for next Wednesday.

And today is bloodwork day! I need to reschedule my oncologist appoint that was at the same time as the ultrasound Wednesday. I am so tired of medical appointments but I need to remind myself how lucky I am to have good insurance, the ability to drive myself to my appointments and good providers that are helping me manage my health!

Bacon and potato sausage is as awesome as it sounded. It has a nice balance of the two.

Time to go get stabbed!

Happy to hear the remodel is just about complete. I know you are glad.

As to the cysts on your pancreas, I’m keeping that in my prayers. My mother has a pancreatic cystic mass called and IPMN. She has had several of those endoscopic ultrasounds. You will need someone to drive you home from that. Crossing fingers yours doesn’t grow.

This. So sorry to hear that you've got yet another thing added to your health issues to keep an eye on though. Great news that the remodelling is finally coming to an end and that you're enjoying your walks together. Please continue to take good care of yourself and listen to what your body is telling you.
