Thanks all! Today was pretty good, I managed to blow dry my hair after a fashion and Dream barely recognised me! I’m tired of looking daggy and rumpled, but am mostly unable to do much about it.

You are beautiful no matter what because your inner beauty shines through. Glad you felt good enough to fluff up your outer self.

It was funny, he came in the room and stopped dead. "Are you going out?" Heheh. I still clean up pretty well.

The truth is that I feel pretty awful about myself. I'm not brave. I'm whiny and preoccupied with myself. I want to sail through this challenge like it was a tiny blip but I'm reduced to everything unpleasant. I try very hard to be grateful for all I have, and I am grateful, but I also cry a lot and worry a lot.

I disagree with your assessment. First off, what you have now isn't a minor blip, it is a pretty major "downer event" and hopefully you will move through surgery and recovery in good shape, but you would be foolish to minimize it. I think you are holding up quite well. I don't see any problem with expressing irritations and frustrations, much better to vent 'em out than hold them in and let them build.

I have to agree with Rig, but also add that part of this blip is that you also just moved 1/2 way around the world into a medical system totally foreign to what you always new.

So lets see, you’re in a new country, new home, just got all your personal belongings, and find a job you like and wham you fall and get out of commission just as you were starting to adjust and find a few activities. I’d say that’s more than a minor blip. You will get through and in the process you and Dream will learn a whole lot about each other. So far it seems Dream truely is that, a dream dealing with all of this with you.

Take heart, in six weeks the wrist part will be a distant memory and you’ll be able to get back to adjusting to your new life.

Agree with Kathi.

As it’s probably Monday there now (Sun eve as I write this for me), your surgery is tomorrow. All the best and will be thinking of you.

<<hugs>>

Oh so good to get the surgery on the schedule!

Don't be so hard on yourself! You've had some major life upsets recently. If you need to cry and whine you go right ahead and do so!

This morning as I was leaving for the hospital my mobile rang...I got bumped from the schedule due to emergency cases.  Now I'm seeing the dark side of socialised medicine. Of course it can be exactly the same in the private sector. In any case it was a shocking blow to my wellbeing, I cried for two hours. Dream went out on a limb to make some bone broth and roast chicken for me. Hopefully tomorrow....

So here I am, prepped for surgery, hanging out with the other gimps. Very civilised. The hospital jonny opens on the side and I have a big fluffy white robe and a warm blanket. Arm/wrist still hurts like hell, but it would hurt just as badly no matter where I was. In the home stretch!

When I think of all the surgeries you have gone through, I am a lightweight!

Yesterday Dream made chicken soup under my direction, turned out fantastic. What a difference with homemade broth! We both loved it. I m trying not to think about it now as of course I am fasting for surgery.

Well.  I didn't have surgery yesterday.  After I waited for 8 hours, I was told they could not fit me in and they sent me home.  Frankly, it was horrible.  Yes, I cried.  I'm going back tomorrow (Friday) for another try.  BUT one very good thing came out of it - the doc split my cast down both sides, and it is much more comfortable.  I feel like I have been brought back from the brink of insanity. I wish, of course, that I had insisted on this sooner. I have a large and deep pressure sore on the unbroken (ulnar) side of my wrist. Hopefully it will heal up just fine. I had complained but was told repeatedly that the tightness was necessary, and my fingers were warm, although swollen. Now I suspect they were a bit TOO warm,

Anyway, tomorrow is another day and I'll report in.
