Very nice tote bag. What a beauty it is and useful too.

Glad you are having fun with this new hobby. With Winter approaching your area I expect we'll see some other finished projects over the months. Good for you.

I like NM's idea of shooting for a scarf next, and have seen this pattern that I think I could possibly attempt:

Oh that was a big day.  We took a longer drive this morning and when we arrived at our starting point conditions were so clear and calm that we ditched our plan A and decided to head up to the peak in front of us.  We've only been there once before as the opportunity does not often present itself.

This entails walking straight up for about three hours, first through puddles in the bush, then through the ever shorter vegetation, eventually onto a staircase over the moss and tussock, and finally onto the scoria slopes.  We have no idea of the gradient, but probably whatever is the steepest a mountain can be without all the rocks falling off it.

At the pass which can be very windswept we met a party of young men descending having spent a very very cold night in the little hut.  We crossed the pass, reached the hut for a leisurely lunch with view of the barren landscape, then on the return journey clambered to the top of the peak before coming back down.

I neglected to bring my poles, which was unfortunate, but we made it down slowly if safely for total day out of 6 hours. Whew, I am TIRED now, but happy Smile

I'd love to come tramping with you. Glad you took advantage of the calm and clear day and took on the mountain! Yea for you and friends.

My hiking group friends use poles; I find them in the way. Sorry you forgot yours.

Sounds like a day well spent!

Good luck with the scarf, though judging from your other 'attempts' you've got the skills to manage this one just as well as the others.

That sounds like a wonderful and very challenging tramp. Funny, on Sunday we were talking during a drive about all the wonderful places to hike/tramp in New Zealand. Husband and friend were recalling fond memories of both volcanoes and the mountains near Mt. Cook. It was T taking a month to go off adventuring in NZ that caused him to come home and ask me to marry him.

If you had all come with me, you would now be enduring sunburn, scrapes, and tight muscles.  But it would be worth it because you would have seen this:

And climbed this:

And eaten lunch here:

And listened to the river from here:

Yes, it's amazing isn't it?  I have another photo like the first one but with me standing by the pole.  I have included it in a job application.

I am looking out for something else, the demonstrating is ok but I feel I have more to offer than what it requires from me, or contributes to the world.  Also, the hours are minimal.  I don't want full time as I have my piano students to think of, but there is room for something else.

Pam may laugh at this, but my application is to a women's gym!  She's the one who suggested I look at "somewhere that people work out".  I dismissed that at the time, but now, who knows? They are looking for a vibrant and positive person.

Why would I laugh? You are so "in shape" and do possess the vibrant personality and positive outlook.

Keep that using that positive outlook.

They'd be lucky to have you. Show them your ability to do those one-legged deep knee bends that I cannot seem to think of the name of right now.

Re: Simply Primal - Annie Tries Again

Post by Annieh on Sun Apr 08, 2018 2:48 am

Thanks, people.  Time will tell.

Meanwhile we have been watching the Commonwealth Games and my DH made some comment about the "ladies' boxing".  I thought he was tongue in cheek so I insisted, "women's boxing".

Upon which my 17yo DD became very confused, and wondered why I would correct him. To her "ladies" and "women" are interchangeable terms.  Her friend arrived and we asked her if she saw a difference, and she didn't either.

My DD attends a co-ed state school, her friend a Catholic girls college.  I am a bit flabbergasted.  I honestly thought the feminists had gained a bit more ground in our education system than that.

Meanwhile, my DH has also worked among liberals in tertiary education for many years and I am surprised he has not more attuned to the connotations, as it turns out he was being serious.  (Unless he is kidding me, which is always possible - considering that his next comment was along the lines of would I rather he watched the ladies' volleyball?).

Or is it me who is making a distinction where none exists?

No, I think you are on target with your distinction and it hits a nerve for me.
To me "woman" simply means an adult female.
"Lady" carries an implicit set of social values, social graces and behaviors. This leaves me in a quandary with your story, I would find "ladies' boxing" to be a non fit, where women's boxing would be my choice.

I have a similar thing with "man" and "gentleman." I get really irritated with what I perceive as a common practice with news commentators and talk show hosts who will refer to some creepazoid who has committed some heinous crime as a "gentleman."

For me, it is all part of mixing and diluting the English language and constantly re-aligning word meanings primarily to blur and confuse meanings and to dictate ways of thinking. Your DH's exposure to the education system puts him in one of the hot-beds of this action. The big push on gender/sex fluidity sets my teeth on edge, not to mention the blurring between refugee, immigrant. and illegal immigrant. During my life, being gay has gone from meaning that you are light hearted and happy to meaning you are homosexual, and it seems now that the use of homosexual is being discouraged in favor of gay/lesbian and a great variety of somewhere in-between words. Not to mention the current and on-coming push to dis-allow the use of the words mother and father.
