Nice on the rain. Petrichor - ...scents associated with rainfall that people find pleasing.
I always get a mental boost when it rains. A calming, contented feeling. Turns out it's a very real physiological thing. Negative ions from moving water has an effect on our systems. I feel it after a rain.

Hurray on holding good lab numbers for 5 years. Must be doing something right. :]

Sorry to read of the fracture, I had my dominant hand casted for a month from a workout mishap a few years back, so can definitely relate. Envious of your summer, as we head into a polar vortex her just in time for Christmas...

Merry Christmas to you and yours Annie. Thanks for stopping by.

It is Christmas Eve here and the family I normally visit is ill. So I am on my own and will probably begin taking food over to my sons with the added advantage of seeing my DGDaughter, her dad and DGDog.

It is snowing hard too. I took a nap, thankfully, as I have been sleeping so badly and awoke to all this snow! yahoo. Glad they live nearby and I do not have that long drive to my friend's house. I know what it is like to be sick at the holidays so I feel bad for my friend's DH.

Cheers....wish you could run around in the rain!

Boxing Day began with brownie for breakfast.  Mmmmm.  Then walked around the lake with dh and eldest dd while youngest stayed home doing nothing, and middle went out with fiance.

Snipped a few trailing wisteria vines - AGAIN - this plant seems out to get us. Went for another little walk in the domain. A good time for contemplation, as The Walrus puts it. Not many people out in nature today, maybe they're all home napping or in town shopping the sales.

Hope everyone has had a good couple of days.

Yes it was, NM. Another fairly cruisy day today. I woke with the morning light though so I need to get to bed earlier, I am quite sleepy.

I ate beetroot for lunch, it has turned my wee pink. Disconcerting.

I saw pix of me aged 21. I was already showing signs of becoming roly poly, even though not exactly overweight. The middle aged people in those 1980s pix were mostly slim, not like today's folk. Interesting. As for me, I believe I am stronger now than then, though I might weigh a little more it wouldn't be by much.

Two lots of sad news today. My friend's daughter lost her baby, quite early in the pregnancy. And my daughter's friends lost their mother, similar age to me, in her sleep just prior to Christmas. That is the second such death this year, it's sobering.

Lives keep living and dying even while we are in the midst of good times. I lost a friend prior to Thanksgiving and am keeping tabs on a number if folks.

I look around at all the people in terrible shape and doing nothing. Makes me sad.

Moving round a lot slowly. ie up and down my hallway to wash fly prints off walls and ceiling, this also included climbing on and off sawhorse so that may also qualify as lifting heavy things. It seems every surface in my house needs not only a wet rag but also paint or wallpaper. Don't even know where to start, and in fact won't be starting at all until cast comes off.

Daughters are moving very slowly indeed, sometimes not at all for quite some time. I guess they need rest but it's draining to be around.

I know what you mean about the slow start to days especially since I'm up so early. My DGDaughter was up very early on shopping day. No surprise there.

I also know what you mean about the inside of a house needing this and that. I think I may hire out the painting vs. me.

I enjoy decorating but only if I am in the mood and I can have the day and the room to myself. Enjoy planning it all while you are still in the cast.

Ooooow. Unaccustomed as I am to washing ceilings, my muscles are protesting.  It seems like I ache all over but actually it's mainly my neck/shoulders. Worst thing is, the job is not quite finished.  One more light shade and short stretch of ceiing to go, not to mention the rest of the house because I mentioned that yesterday.  If I keep at it will I wear myself out or develop shapely shoulders and arms?

Woke at 5am which was better as I was able to go back to sleep till 8.  Last few mornings were 6, by which time the shun is sining and the chirds are burping.

Wind has dropped, thankfully, rain is forecast for new year's day.  Good, we need it.

It is good to use muscles we do not usually. If you keep at it they will settle down, I think.

To me it is like when I get outside in the spring and get to work in the garden....loads of sore muscles each spring.

Wish I could go back to sleep once again. Good for you.

Everything would be easier with two arms, however I have bought some plants and some potting mix and planted a flowering geranium into the nice container I was given for my birthday back in July. I also potted up some impatiens, begonias, herbs and a white dianthus. Then I cleaned the porch until it got dark. If it looks ok in the morning I will get my dh to move some of my pots into position to create what I hope will be a welcoming effect.

I'm not crash hot on either gardening or homekeeping, but I have found a new motto that helps me - "Better than before" - which I find much preferable to my previous options, perfection or nothing.

I love your train of thought Annie! "Better than Before". I'm going to use it too!

I am sure your porch will look superb.

Wow you’re getting a lot done with only 1 arm. Well done. I like your “better than before” as well. Kind f ties in with “progress not perfection”. I too can be an all or nothing type person

I don't think my porch is ever likely to look superb,
but the Before featured tramping boots, dried leaves, sand and cobwebs
while the Better has flowers and herbs:

Hey, I've learnt to whistle! I have been working on harmonica (which is coming along) and suddenly I find I can also whistle, something I have never been good at. It's not yet in tune, but there's sound. Funny Smile

Rain this morning. Best new year's gift from heaven that our parched land could have asked for.
