Katie's Primal Path

Post by katierose on Wed Apr 04, 2018 5:34 pm

Hello again and thanks to everyone for welcoming me in my intro thread!

A little more about me...I'm 34 and live in northern Virginia with my pound puppy, Cece. I work in an office in DC three days a week and I get to work from home the other two. I have several crafty hobbies including knitting, handspinning, sewing and quilting.

I'm hoping this journal will help me to keep track of what works for me and what doesn't...as my usual method of winging it and hoping for the best hasn't really been successful in the past! This is week 2 for me and diet wise I've been doing very well, but the hard part for me is keeping up with an exercise routine. Lately all I've been doing is an easy yoga class with my sister once per week. I want to add a couple long walks with the dog, 2 or 3 strength training workouts and a harder yoga session each week. Right now I don't have a ton of energy...maybe due to the relatively low carb diet? I'm hoping that will improve soon.

Excited to be back on the path to primalness!

Welcome Katie! Don't worry about movement and play at this stage. As your body adjusts to Primal/Paleo you'll WANT to move more. Smile Be it a few squats in between or more strenuous stuff when you've got the time.

http://primalforums.forumotion.com/t89-how-do-i-learn-about-primal for (among other things) the link to the PB Fitness book.

Good luck! Crafty hobbies are good for keeping your hands busy and your mind focussed. Wink

I'll second Lovebird. Movement of any sort (not just exercise) is very good for a body, but not a key part of weight loss. I do believe in the idea that the best exercise plan is the one you enjoy - since you have a dog it would likely be very good for both of you to add some short walks to your day.

As you adjust, I think your energy levels will indeed rise. Also, spring is coming. I find it so much easier to do things on nicer days when it is reasonable to get outside.

Welcome!

I’m here to agree with LB and M2M. Give your body time to adjust and add in the exercise/play gradually. You’ll be glad you did

Thank you all Very Happy   I was pretty active last summer/fall so I've been feeling like a lazy blob lately.  But I know you're all right and I need to be patient.

Really getting excited for consistent warm weather.  It's supposed to snow here Saturday and maybe again on Tuesday Crying or Very sad

Pam I love your cheerfulness over snow. I’m done with it personally. Hopefully don’t need to see more.

How much snow did you get Pam? We ended up not getting any. Just a cold blah day.

Week 2 in the books and I'm down another pound. Had a really productive weekend...went to yoga yesterday morning and then did a few hours of cleaning and laundry. So I think my energy is coming back, haha. Also made some turkey burgers and a big pot of beef stew. With most of my meals ready to go, this should be a pretty successful week. Meal planning and prep is so critical for me. If I don't have food ready, I'm probably going to grab something carby and bad. So it's something I really have to stay on top of if I want to avoid falling back into bad habits.

Just barely enough for the snowman rolling and a run down the hill on a sled. Funny, the snowman is still there along with the neighborhood dogs barking at it.

I agree about having foods ready. I am particularly lazy about cooking due to living alone and all the time it involves. When I get on the right track with grocery shopping, et all I do much better.

Good job on the prep.

I do a lot of food prep on weekends as well. Makes all the difference in having a successful week versus feeling crazed and unprepared.

Here's hoping you have a good week.

Got in a nice 45 minute walk on my lunch break. It's still a bit chilly out but I wanted to see the cherry blossoms before they all blow away.

M2M it really is! Today was a good day to go...not too crowded. Friday will probably be crazy.

V, hope you enjoy your trip! There might be some blossoms left 😊

Nothing will be in bloom in this part of the world for at least another month (optimistically)

Greensprout I don't know what's worse...long cold winters or super hot sticky summers!

Katie, for me long cold winters are worse. I can no longer tolerate the cold.

Enjoy all those wonderful blossoms.

What a gorgeous weekend we are having! Yesterday was perfect for a bike ride. It's been months since my last ride so I only did an hour and took the less hilly route. A little sore today but not too bad. On my way back an oncoming cyclist rang his bell and pointed out a rat snake that was crossing the trail. I was so zoned out I almost ran over it!

It's supposed to storm off and on today but for now I'm sitting on the balcony enjoying my coffee. There's a big pot of chicken broth on the stove that's been going since yesterday afternoon, and later I'll make some beef stir fry for lunches this week.

Down another pound since last week.

For me the worst part about winter is the lack of sunlight. It's dark when I leave for work, and it's dark when I get home. So depressing!

Ditto on the cold winters being worse. I lived up north for 4 years growing up and hated it. While I am not a huge fan of the humidity associated with our summers, I prefer the green and trees that come with it compared to the dry heat from our previous city in Texas that was a high mountain desert and brown, brown, brown.
