My knee replacement surgery Thursday went extremely well, It was at at 7:30 AM and they had me up and walking on it at 1:30.
On Thursday I was on a clear liquid diet, but this morning shifted over to a regular diet and had a very good omelette this morning, and a mediocre sandwich for lunch.it tasted great, but the 2oz roast beef was sadly lacking in volume. I was discharged and home around 4:30 today (Friday).

My pain level is quite low, less than what I experienced in my knee replacement last year, and I seem to be well ahead of where I was last year in terms of knee range of motion.

Once again Kettering Hospital's staff was amazingly good, helpful and friendly across the board.

Thanks for all the prayers and best wishes.

I spent the night getting about one hour sleep, then going to the bathroom to pee.  The good news here is that the lowered knee pain I'm experiencing reflected in much easier ability to doze off.

I weighed this AM, and oh my, what a shock, I was at 257.5 up 17 pounds from last Sunday's reading. That is a lot more than I added last year. But I did nothing for 2 days but consume fluids and have an IV drip going non-stop. Hopefully I'll see the water weight move out of my system rapidly. And my bowels need to start performing again, all the meds have constipation as a side effect, so am trying to address this, but no success yet.

Rig it’s so good to hear all went so well. I’m wondering if the extra exercise prep ahead of the surgery this year has helped with the entire process.

I’m sure that 17 is all water and will be gone quickly.

Week 24 update Weight: 248 Up 7.5
Ok, I'm not counting this week. Considering that on Sat after coming home from surgery on Thursday I was at 257.5, that means that all the non-stop potty runs yesterday saw me lose almost 10 pounds of water. I can believe it, And my bowels finally started getting back to normal, so all is good.

My leg is pretty swollen, and expect it to stay that way for some time. I have better mobility in It and I think I'm about a week ahead of my last year's experience. My range of motion was 0 (straight leg) to 86) bent, so that is all good. My stomach has felt lousy since getting home, but making a couple of big bathroom runs has helped and I'm hoping to see my appetite return to something like normal. In general, I feel better than I did last time around, I'm not as physically exhausted and not needing to sleep as much.

Rig all very good news. I´m sure some of that 7 is in your leg. It will disípate soon enough.

I definitely think you were in better shape going in this year. You had cleaned up your diet and were losing prior. Every little thing like that helps.

I´m thrilled at your progress this far. Smile

Post by Rig D on Mon 23 Jul 2018 - 7:39

My weight continues to fall rapidly as the fluids flush out. This morning I was under 244.

I had a home nurse here over the weekend as part of my follow up out-patient treatment and she is not happy with my blood pressure, which is up significantly post surgery. She contacted my MD, and he said to take an extra pill of my BP med, no big deal, so I'm watching the BP closer than normal and will continue to take an extra pill when dictated. I'm on a fairly low dose 2xday so 1 more pill isn't that much extra. I expect the BP will fall into line within a few days. Not concerned about it.

I should be getting my home PT started in a couple of days, I have requested the same PT that I had last year, I really liked him and he's still on staff. Hope my request will be met.

Pain and muscle soreness up a little this morning, my upper thigh is still quite sore from where they applied a tourniquet during the surgery.

Good news Rig. I’m guessing the BP will continue to come in line as the inflammation flushes out.

Hopefully you will get your PT request. Always good to have someone you like working with.

How’s the walking going?

I'm not doing anything specific on walking yet, just moving around the house a fair amount. All the med folks are advising not to overdue things early, that I can hinder long term recovery by overdoing things early on. But I'm much more mobile and moving around a lot more than I did with last yr's surgery.

well, some of that stuff sounds really uncomfortable! I guess all things expected after a surgery such as this, right? I mean - you did have a major joint removed and replaced. But your attitude and outlook is so great! That has MUCH to do with recovery - so good for you!

Isn't it amazing how much fluid the body can hang on to? Must be nice to see the scale settling back down to pre-surgery numbers.

Rig, I was thinking of you and wondering how you were doing while I was away this weekend (no internet). I am happy to read things are going well and your post-surgery issues are dissipating. I'm sure that once your BP settles and you feel more up to getting back to the normal diet and food consumption you'll be feeling yourself again. Pain meds are brutal on the digestive system. Maybe take more magnesium while you are on the pain meds.
