Thanks for the tips on the recipes! I do have a number of them but I was being lazy and thought I could wing it. I should have looked something up. But I really don't usually and shouldn't do a lot of gf bready things. Even AIP compliant stuff can mess with me if I do them too frequently since I don't do well on a higher carb diet.

The bacon sausage was tasty and now it is gone! TW, if you make your own, post the recipe!

E is at work today but was running a temp last night. He may have done too much yesterday. Fortunately that shouldn't be a problem at work! Laughing lol!

Today is just a general house work day, pack Daisy's bag for "camp" and can a few tomatoes. We are using Rover.com for the first time, which matches dog sitters to sittees in need. She will be staying in a house with a family not too far from us. They have two dogs and three teenage children. I met everyone and I think it will be nicer for her than a kennel.

It is HOT again! And humid. Feels like temp is over 100f again today. Of course it will cool down after we leave. I am looking forward to fall!

I might be going to a sausage making workshop next week, I am going to ask! I say 'might' because the workshop is two days after my surgery. Shocked

Ha ha.
True - office days are not physically taxing. And I took the elevator this morning, not the stairs.
It seems the office complex saved money on the AC over the long weekend, so it was a bit humid inside, which did not help with the post-fever sweaty grossness.

I need to find a sausage class!

Kathy, she is a California girl, so she has a kicky beach bag for all her camp goodies! but no kerchief. She hates them.

I got a few travel friendly snacks for us since we are arriving in CA late tomorrow. I also got some Fiber gummies. I usually do two tablespoons of insulin fiber a day and I buy it in 1 kg bags. It is a white power so I decided it was better not to bring it in a little baggie.

Tomorrow, after I drop off Daisy dog, the kitchen contractor comes by. We have been discussing all the things we want and don't want. I am excited to see what the kitchen specialist thinks.

So very hot here. I need to do some watering, weeding, and tearing out of old veggie plants that are done for the year. I think with it feeling like 108f, just the watering will get done!

Dinner tonight will be a salmon salad with a lemon dill vinaigrette. We need to finish up the lettuce.

I am excited to show E where I grew up. It is a part of California that is very different from what most people think of when they think of CA. I am feeling some sadness about this likely being my last visit to the family farm. Once we have the estate/ yard sale, it will be ready to sell. We will also have a family dinner one night with my uncle, aunt and cousins. E will be having a good time!

Late to comment (I've been offline) but wow, bacon sausage sounds devine. Must keep an eye out for that.

Hope your travels go well.

VH, we are finally getting a break from the really hot weather, 'sposed to be in the mid 80's today, cooler tomorrow. It is headed your way.

I hope things go well for you and E in California. My exposure to CA is mostly LA & San Diego. I've been in Silicon Valley for a month on a consulting project, but no further north, understand the state is very nice "up there." I have a good friend in Davis who is, I believe, the lone conservative there.

We are back from the ranch!

It was a successful but exhausting trip. We sold far more than I thought we would and made a huge dent in clearing out the property. This was the first yard/estate/ranch sale I have had and it was an experience! We met some wonderful people and some dishonest people but I trying to only focus on the good. A couple customers were people who were fully or partially burned out by a big fire last year so it felt good giving them great deals on stuff they needed. It was tough letting go of some things. We still need another super big dumpster but it already looks so much better.

It was so hot and sunny up there! And dusty and dry. It is not what most people think of when they think of California but there is beauty to it. It is an area of the haves and the have nots. You have a ton of fast food restaurants but very few heathy restaurants. It was nice to show E the fish hatchery my dad managed and the huge dam that my sister used to work at. It was the dam that had a spillway fail last year (Oroville Dam). Seeing the damage on tv did not really give an accurate picture of it. The scope of the repairs were impressive. Huge dump trucks looked like toys.

The highlight of the trip for E might have been the tour at the Sierra Nevada Brewery. It was really cool and he got to taste some beers that were only available at the brewery or their restaurant. We had lunch there too. Yummy food.

Today is a day of rest after our red-eye flight. We did get upgraded into first class, which allowed for us to get some sleep but not nearly enough. Grocery shopping is waiting until tomorrow so dinner will be from the freezer.

I had some bilateral swelling of my feet on the flight. They already were a little swollen from all the fluids I was retaining from the questionable foods I ate. Lots of hidden. Since most of the swelling has resolved, I am not too worried but I will still bring it up at my next doctor appointment.

Off to pull out some stuffed peppers!

And Daisy had fun at her sleepover camp. The family watching her said that she was their favorite dog that they had babysat. The kids wanted to keep her. That made me feel good and she was much calmer than when she had been boarded. She was still happy to see us and come home but even the drop off had been easy. She will go back there any time we need a sitter.

So glad to hear you had a good trip and Daisy liked her boarding experience. We have been wondering what to do with our fur friends and are considering a housesitting arrangement - would be great to have a responsible person taking care of the house as well as the dogs. Apparently there are a lot of people who enjoy doing this and have good references and are basically free. (Sounds too good to be true.)

VH, your California trip sounds like it was an all points success. I think having your feet swell on airplanes is pretty common, I have had that also. For future reference, if you work at doing various ankle flexes and rotations on the flight, it will help some.

Sounds like a totally wonderful trip for everyone including Daisy.

Change in altitude can affect the legs too, so just being in Cali after being used to VA, can change things.

Glad it all worked well.

Feet and ankles back are to normal. I usually get a small amount of swelling but this was significantly more and was uncomfortable. I think it was a combo of the flight and eating more prepared/restaurant food than I do normally. Or I am just getting old Sad .

Met with the kitchen designer and contractor this morning. There were a few things that kitchen lady wanted his input on. We are getting our full proposal a week from tomorrow! Currently our dryer is vented into the garage, which is a very bad thing and there is a window that goes into the garage that does not meet code. I like it because without it, there is no natural light in the laundry room. We are going to take out the window, put the vent into the wall where the window is now, up through the roof and put in solar tube skylights so I still have natural light. I am so excited! This will also allow cabinets on that wall. If everything goes as planned, we can start early November!

I so glad to be home! Three loads of laundry completed. I was too tired after the kitchen people left to go to the store so tonight's dinner is pot roast, potatoes and carrots. If the rain stops long enough, I will pick some green beans too. Tomorrow is grocery day and maybe a stop at the orchard for fresh fruit. Apples are now ready!

A combination of sun and stress caused a cold sore. I was on it quickly with anti-virals, lysine and Abreva. Hopefully that will stop it from becoming a full blown outbreak.

Still reading The Autoimmune Solution by Amy Myers. I really liked Sarah Ballatyne's book The Autoimmune Approach (I think). Sarah's book was more sciency but Amy's book is basic and easy to understand, especially in some of the more complicated discussions on how our immune system. I think reading both will be helpfully. Both diets are almost identical from what I have read but Amy seems to depend more on supplements, which, interestedly enough, Amy sells. But even with that, the book is full of really good info.

the remodeling sounds exciting! My BIL has a couple of those solar tubes in his hallway and they sure make a huge difference in the amount of light!

I use Amy Myers protein powder and clean greens (until I run out, then changing to Mighty Maca Plus). I do like her products. I understand her business is in selling her products - but sometimes it seems like she is pushing them too much. For example - her videos on her website.

Re: My renewal...

Tomi, she does push a little too much but I would still recommend her book since I did learn some new things.

NM, things are moving ahead and I am so excited!  The kitchen just does not function well for us, especially since it is a huge kitchen.

E/Pedidoc- That was sweet!  I teared up a little.

I am glad that E was able to see where I grew up before we sell the main property.  It probably explains a few (but not all) my quirks.

I finished the Amy Myers book.  Like I said above, I would recommend it.  Not sure I would recommend signing up for her website since I get 2-3 emails a day from it.  I am going to knuckle under and start following her program, at least mostly.  Based on previous elimination diets, I know I am ok with nightshades and spices that are seeds.  White rice is also something I know works for me.  I will also keep having a cup of black or green tea each day as tea is recommended for people with cancer.  It will be good for me since I think there has been some serious creep of things I know that do not work for me.

I am going to add three new supplements, one to help heal the lining of my gut, one to reduce bad viruses, bacteria and parasites in the intestines and digestive enzymes to help completely digest food, especially accidental exposure to dairy and gluten.  We eat out enough to be at risk for accidental cross-exposures, so the enzymes will help there.

Today will be a quiet at home day.  E stopped and picked up a few things yesterday so we are good until our Saturday shopping.  I have some homemade tomato sauce reducing.  Some of it will be for dinner and I will freeze the rest.  I am also cleaning the fridge today.

More rain today.  The weeds are growing like, well, weeds.  I need to see if I can get out between storms and pull out the Poke weed before it tries to go to seed.  Poke weed is my nemesis!

Sometimes smaller kitchens end up working better. Hopefully you will have a good flow with the update an ease of you working together there.

I liked Amy’s book, read it mostly for my friends. I did get on the website to download some of the recipes. I had to unsubscribe, the amount of emailed was insane. However, my GF says the diet works wonders for her.

Hope you managed to get the Poke week gone. While I don’t have much of that, I do get inundated with Thistles. They are my nemesis.

NM-poke weed is gone! I hate thistle too. Especially the star thistle we had growing up. Trying to keep as many weeeds as I can from going to seed.

We made the best dinner tonight. E roasted green beans from the garden with a few Csa potatoes. I roasted a sliced eggplant from the garden and served spicy Italian sausage in a homemade tomato sauce on it - made from tomatoes, also from our garden. It was simple but very tasty. I have not yet found a vegetable that does not taste yummy roasted! It is definitely a make again dinner! Our garden has really started producing!
