Uncharted wandering.... again

Post by ssndoc on Mon Dec 18, 2017 9:36 am

Ok... it’s been a good long while since I was last on MDA, but I thought I might give this place a go around. We’ll just have to see where this goes...

I pretty much ghosted from MDA when I got a job change, and moved to a new work shift.. nights were conducive to keeping an online journal... day shift is a totally different animal!

Since moving to a new shift, and getting “ demoted”, atleast HR seems to think it was a demotion... things have been moving right along. Adjusting to day shift took some getting used to.. sleeping all night took some getting used to, after so many years of working all night... adjusting to being around so many people at work, traffic, adjusting to not being alone in the house... figuring out when to workout... (still working on that one).. figuring out diet, and the holidays.. man life can get complicated!!!

The summer flew by... made a couple of trips... made it to Texas in July... just in time for a hurricane! Fortunately, the storm didn’t come very far north. It was still misty and rainy, but it was great to be home... I did a little exploring. Found my grandparents home in Waco (the last one I remember, anyway), and their gravesite. Did a little of the “tourist” routine... ate some great barbecue, and Mexican food... and generally had a good time. Went to a concert (the reason for the trip) and had a blast..

In October, I went on a ketogenic diet, and have lost nearly 20 lbs... aaaaand here come Christmas... with loads of family around, staying keto is going to be difficult... to say the least.. so, here goes nothing... affraid

Enough blathering for one entry.. hopefully some of the old gang will drop in and say hey... I might wander through a few diaries and see what is shaking here...

Hey... Very Happy

Nice to see you here too, Doc! Even though I hardly recognize ya... the talk sounds familiar, the pic however... looks like a true Scotsman. Wink

Welcome to the party!

Great to see you coming over SSNDoc. Glad you are adjusted to day shift, no longer a true night owl.
Good luck staying keto through the first of the year -- that's seriously tough duty.

I did a DNA test recently, and some genealogy research, and I have Scottish roots... could explain why a kilt feels natural...

I too have Scottish heritage. Our clan came to the USA back in the mid 1700's from Aberdeen, briefly were in Philadelphia then were among the first settlers in the wilds of southern South Carolina.

But I'm not too big on kilts, and I can definitely pass on the haggis.

Hi! I don't think we've met!

Anyway, I, too, am of Scottish heritage. Both my paternal grandparents were born in Scotland and came here as children. Oh, and I actually like haggis. Wink

What kind of doctor are you?

Pleased to meet your acquaintance Ontario... I believe my wife is originally from there... or lived there at one time...

I’m not a doctor, actually, but I played one many years ago when I was serving on a nuclear submarine.... which is where the nickname comes from...

Ah, got it! I might pick your brain sometime. My son is American born (Dallas, Texas - we lived there for half a decade) and has aspirations to join the US Navy as a diver. It would be nice to have someone to ask questions.

As a Native born Texan (out in the western par of the state) I will be glad to assist a fellow Texan... I will answer questions as best I can! Lol

Hi Doc. It sure has been a long time since seeing you on MDA.

Glad you made the jump over here.

Your keto diet sounds impressive. You must be proud.

Hey Pam! Good to see you here.

Thanks for the encouraging words! The keto diet seems to be working, but being the immediate gratification human, I wish it were going faster... though honestly, it took years to get where I am, and it is completely unreasonable to think I can undo all of that in a matter of weeks or months... so, slow and steady shall I go...

Well, the saga continues... and the War on Carbs continues... spent the evening decorating sugar cookies..... apparently I’m losing this war... lol the damage wasn’t as horrible as my icing skills!
I did set some jerky up to dry before taking that sugar bath though... sliced a rump roast thin, coated the meat in spices and salt, let it cure in the fridge for 24 hours them dried overnight in my dehydrator... I have another roast to slice today, and dry tomorrow.. the adult children are getting jerky for Christmas!

I’m just using a spice blend that I got at Bass Pro Shops.. it is a Sampler Pack of 5 varieties, if memory serves me correctly.. I don’t remember the brand name off the top o’ Me pointy head.. I used their Original formula for this batch. I think the next batch will be Mesquite flavored..

The war on carbs is a pretty rough one.   They can be insidious foes.
